Database Design

  • Description
    The Database Design seminar provides an overview of the elements involved in choosing and constructing a database structure for a project.  Both the tree and plex structures and general file formats are reviewed.  Various data access methods are described, with special emphasis on the Relational database model, including levels of normalization.
  • At the end of the seminar, attendees will be able to
    • Understand tree and plex structures of data organization
    • Construct files and access methods for sequential, random access, and indexed sequential files
    • Understand Network and Relational data models
    • Normalize data for efficient data accessing
    • Know when and where to use active databases
  • There is no limit on the number of attendees

  • Instructor Qualifications

    1. Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    2. 5 years professional experience in software engineering
    3. 5 years experience teaching computer professionals at the Graduate school level
