Software Estimating

  • Description
    The Software Estimating seminar provides an overview of the industry-standard methods of estimating software development, including staffing, time, and budget.  The different estimation model types are reviewed and calculating estimation errors is explained.  The use and characteristics of Function Points and the Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) are described.  A detailed example of estimating software size using Function Points is shown, and that estimation is used in an intermediate COCOMO example to estimate project cost and schedule.
  • At the end of the seminar, attendees will be able to
    • Understand various types of software estimation models
    • Use Function Points to estimate software size
    • Use COCOMO to estimate project cost and schedule

  • Instructor Qualifications

    1. Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    2. 5 years professional experience in software engineering
    3. 5 years experience teaching computer professionals at the Graduate school level
