  • Description
    The Internet Search Engines seminar provides an overview of the major search engines, including descriptions of each one and how they work.  Features of each search engine, such as math searches, power searches, search assistance features, and customization features, are described.  Discussions of crawler-based search engines (the one used in most of the commercial engines), human-powered directories, and hybrid search engines to contrast their capabilities.  General rules for Web page ranking algorithms are given.  Features available to Webmasters and tips for improving your listing placement for user searches are also given.
  • At the end of the seminar, attendees will be able to
    • Understand differences and similarities between the major search engines
    • Understand how crawler-based search engines work
    • Understand the general rules for Web page ranking algorithms
    • Effectively use the searching features of the search engines
    • Effectively develop Web pages to use search engine features
    • Improve the placement of their Web pages on Web searches

  • Instructor Qualifications

    1. Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    2. 5 years professional experience in software engineering
    3. 5 years experience teaching computer professionals at the Graduate school level
