  • Description
    The Semantic Web seminar provides an overview of the major elements and initiatives of this emerging technology.  Differences between the current Web and the next generation Semantic Web are discussed.  The major initiatives of the World Wide Web Consortium for the Semantic Web - rules, tools, and services - are described, with examples that have been completed.  The concepts of "taxonomy" and "ontology" and how they're used in the Semantic Web are explained.  Semantic Web technologies, including the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and the Web Ontology Language (OWL) are described, with examples.  Finally, the Semantic Web tools and how to use them are explained.
  • At the end of the seminar, attendees will be able to
    • Understand what the Semantic Web is now and is intended to be
    • Develop applications with RDF and OWL 
    • Create ontologies using Semantic Web technologies
    • Understand the W3C Semantic Web initiatives
    • Understand how to use evolving Semantic Web tools
  • There is no limit on the number of attendees

  • Instructor Qualifications

    1. Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
    2. 5 years professional experience in software engineering
    3. 5 years experience teaching computer professionals at the Graduate school level
